Can you post the output of dmesg command?

Are you using vmware? TkSurfer works fine in Virtualbox (2.1.4) but I'm not sure it'll do in current vmware. If you are using it I suggest you to migrate your virtual machine to VirtualBox: http://www.virtualbox.org/

Have you tried setting the autoredraw on in tksurfer interface?
