Hello Doug, 

Thanks for the reply. 

I've a parcellation of the gm and wm with different label ids (see screenshot 1). I did like to extract a non-binarised wm to look like screenshot 2. 

mri_extract_label and mri_binarize don't keep the different colours. 

Is there a freesurfer command to achieve this?

I did like to extract wm whilst retaining the label ids. I tried mri_extract_labels but it didn't work.
