You need an X Server (http://www.straightrunning.com/XmingNotes/) -> I think this one is free

However, X Server are usually very slow!

Hi Dana,

you need something to support the graphics (a local x server). putty ssh from windows by itself has no graphics.

I'm not using vnc--just putty ssh.  This is my first time using qdec at all. I have no problem using tkmedit through putty ssh.  I can try it from the actual machine later today and see if it works, so I will know if this is what's causing the problem.

Hi Dana,

are you using vnc or nomachine or something? Have you used qdec in this way before?

I am accessing our linux computer remotely using ssh from a windows machine--I don't know if this is related to the problem.

Thanks,
