Dear FreeSurfer Developers,

I am a medical student currently using FreeSurfer for my PhD research. My project focuses on measuring brain volume and performing brain segmentation in children aged 2–12 years with leukodystrophy, comparing them to healthy controls.

I am working with SynthSeg and have some questions regarding the volumetric measurements, as I couldn't find definitive answers on the wiki pages.

1. SynthSeg generates approximately 33 different segmentations, including an estimate of total intracranial volume (TIV) but does the total intracranial volume include the ventricles?

2. The volumetric analysis also provides a figure for cerebrospinal fluid (CSF). Does this CSF volume include the ventricular CSF, or does it refer only to the CSF in the subarachnoid space?
