I’ve checked in a fix for the issue. Meanwhile, for the 7.1.1 version that you’re running, there is a work around. If you load the patch from the command-line instead of from the GUI, like this:

freeview -f lh.inflated:patch=patch_filename

you should still be able to draw labels on the flat patch directly.

I am able to draw labels on the 3D surface and display it on a flat patch, but when I try to draw directly on the flat patch it keeps drawing in the 3D-space.

Is it possible to draw labels on the flat patch directly ?
