I just ran it, and it works fine. It may be that I need to give you more libraries.
Start with this one
ftp://surfer.nmr.mgh.harvard.edu/transfer/outgoing/flat/greve/fsutils.py
Copy it into $FREESURFER_HOME/bin (after making a backup of the original one)
If that still does not work, then copy this one
ftp://surfer.nmr.mgh.harvard.edu/transfer/outgoing/flat/greve/fsutils.pyc
