Thanks a lot for your help, now I have attached the new vdi to the old vid, but I still can not access the new space after I restart the old vdi.
I searched online, it looks like I'd use some software to clone the old vdi to the new vdi, then set the new vdi as the primary master,
is it correct?

you can use the Virtual Disk Manager GUI from Virtual Box's File menu
