Thank you for the reply. My main issue is that the system is very off-line. No chance to use apt-get. I have tried the VM disk image. It runs. However, it runs out of memory as it is setup with 4Gb. Have tried to increase to 8Gb, but this gives me all kind of issues.

Is the best solution to make an online VM and import it to the offline system?

The freesurfer .deb installer file will try to install any missing system library and/or program dependencies. If you are running on Ubuntu 21, then you could try the Ubuntu 20 installer which you can download from, MailScanner has detected a possible fraud attempt from "secure-web.cisco.com" claiming to be https://surfer.nmr.mgh.harvard.edu/pub/dist/freesurfer/7.3.2/freesurfer_ubuntu20-7.3.2_amd64.deb

$ cd Downloads

$ sudo apt-get install ./freesurfer_ubuntu20-7.3.2_amd64.deb

.... that will install freesurfer as /usr/local/freesurfer/7.3.2

You can always remove that with,

$ sudo apt remove freesurfer

But when using the tar file, you will fault thru what is missing on the system when running binaries and need to determine what to do for a manual install. For that library, you can try,

$ sudo apt-get install libquadmath0

The .deb package above would have at least installed csh/tcsh since it was missing on the system.

I am reinstalling Freesurfer on an offline system.

Run Ubuntu 21.10 and has installed Freesurfer 7.3.2 from a tar-ball and have installed tcsh.

However, the run stopes with: libquadmath.so.0 cannot open shared library : No such file.

How do I solve this?
