For anyone who need this to continue working:
I mentioned this thread on Twitter and it got picked up by the X.org Foundation. They are requesting that anyone who need IGLX to work to send email to the x.org mailing lists to let them know what you need. They have no idea that people don't even know IGLX has been deprecated, let alone people are actually still depending on it for work.

Yes indeed this will be a serious problem in my lab too. We all rely on that to work on our research projects and I think that most neuroimaging labs do the same and I am sure that there are tons of other applications I can not even think of right now. I really hope that a solution for this will come up so that there will be no problems. When I notified my lab they did not even know how to guide me on this. At least there should be some sort of awareness in the labs about that issue so that not everyone needs to figure it out alone.
