[Mne_analysis] Average mode during extracting the timecourse

Hi,

I am trying to extracting the time series of activations in a label. But I can’t understand the  ‘mean_flip’  mode which average within each label with sign flip depending on source orientation. How the average was calculated if the orientation of activation was different within one ROI? For example, when there are positive and negative values within the black line circle:
