Dear Chris,

Thank you! I did not realise this was problematic as it always worked fine in the past. I now followed your steps and managed to install mne without problems. And everything works great! However, to be able to scroll through the raw.plot() I had to change the matplotlib backend to 
Qt4Agg (plt.switch_backend('Qt4Agg’), which might be useful for other users.
