Sulcal depth units

Dear Freesurfer experts, I am reading the manuscript "Cortical Surface-Based Analysis II: Inflation, Flattening, and a Surface-Based Coordinate System" by Fischl, Sereno, and Dale (1999) where the estimation of sulcal depth is described on page 199, however from the description I am still unsure of the exact units of sulcal depth. Are the units for sulcal depth in mm or are they in arbitrary units? Thanks in advance, Simon

Postdoctoral Opportunity: Multimodal MRI registration and analysis Context and methodology This postdoctoral position will focus on the registration of ex-vivo onto in-vivo MR data. Based on some recent advances extending the combined volume and surface registration, efficient approaches can be provided for dealing with this issue. However, these methods need to be validated and several open theoretical questions are related to this problem and will be investigated during this postdoctoral work. The theoretical results obtained will be tested and used on real human data in a larger framework aiming at tractography validation (French National Research Agency Grant ANR 2014, collaborative study Inserm U930, Université de Tours, Neurospin and Martinos Center). Applicant profile Candidates should have a strong background in image registration and MR imaging, a good publication record, and strong experience in c++ and matlab coding. University of California San Diego and the VA San Diego Healthcare System Research scientist/postdoctoral position in Neuroimaging General Description We are seeking a highly motivated and talented researcher (either PhD or MS level) with expertise in fMRI analyses. The person in this position will conduct and coordinate research for the laboratory of Dr. Deborah Harrington at the University of California San Diego (UCSD) and the VA San Diego Healthcare System (VASDHS). The laboratory investigates changes in the brain related to cognitive and motor functioning in individuals with Parkinson’s disease and Huntington’s disease. The lab uses neuroimaging (fMRI, DTI, sMRI), behavioral, and clinical approaches to address research questions. The position provides opportunities for participation in scientific conferences and writing manuscripts/grants. San Diego has a well-established community of basic and clinical scientists who use neuroimaging methods to study healthy individuals and persons with neurological and psychiatric disorders. volume DTI metrics to sruface

FS experts, I have seen several posts regarding volume-to-surface projections, but I am not 100% confident about which parameter should I use with mri_vol2surf that better fit my needs. Currently, my data are several DTI-metric volumes per subject already normalized to MNI152 space (both 1mm and 2mm voxel sizes). My intention is to move cortex values of those volumes into the fsaverage surface space. I know that mri_vol2surf will work, but I have some doubts on how this work. 1) If no extra commands are used (i.e projfrac or projdist), what will each value of the vertex mesh represent? A specific voxel value? 2) If my intention is to project the mean value across white and pial surface, which exact command should I use? 3) There exists any specific command to move from MNI152 volume (FSL) to fsaverage surface (avoiding bbregister)? 4) Statistically, smoothing my data at the surface for further VBM analyisis(i.e moving later the surface values to volumes), will introduce any bias?
