Hello freesurfer experts,
I am doing some TBM analysis and I am looking for the definition of Medial temporal lobe. According to the definitions I found out they are hippocampus+amygdala+brainstem+parahippocampal regions+entorhinal region.
I can get hippocampus and amygdala ROI from aseg.mgz; however for parahippocampal and entorhinal regions should i use aparc+aseg.mgz and aparc.a2009s+aseg.mgz?
Any help will be appreciated. Best,
Akshay
Hi
You would probably like to include : - the parahippocampal gyrus - the hippocampus - the amygdala
but not the brain stem
The question is more complex for the entorhinal area since it is a part of the parahippocampal gyrus. To make things simple : - the hippocampus lies at the superior aspect of the parahippocampal gyrus. At the level of the body of the hippocampus, this flat region is known as the subiculum
- at the level of the hippocampus head, the anterior part of the parahippocampal gyrus is know as the piriform lobe, which itself divides in 2 parts : - the entorhinal area, that rostraly continues the subiculum, - and the uncal part of the piriform lobe that curves posteriorly to form the rostral part of the uncus
So including the entorhinal + parahippocampal would include the entorhinal area twice ; the aparc.a2009s consider the PHG as a whole.
