External Email - Use Caution
Dear FS developers,
I have done some recon-all computing for a group of subjects, subject1, subject2, . , subjectn, and the results are in the $SUBJECTS_DIR directory:
$SUBJECTS_DIR
|_ subject1
|_ subject2
..
|_ subjectn
Now I decide to change the format of the subject IDs. Can I just rename the sub-directories subject1, subject2, . subject to other names, without worrying about any inconsistencies? Thank you!

Hi Xiaojing,
You should be able to rename them! It’s important to note that all of you log text files saved in your subjects’ script directory will reflect the original directory names – but if your output looks good and recon-all completed without errors, you can go right ahead. If you perform any further analyses, you’ll just use these new subject ID’s. If you’d like to be extremely safe, you could keep note of the original subject directory names and what you changed them to.
Matt
