If you already know how to use virtualbox, then you can just create a new machine using the *.vdi file after downloading an unzipping the disk image (otherwise read thru the instructions for setting up virtualbox on Windows or Mac - it should work the same way to setup and run the virtual Ubuntu machine on a different Linux distribution like CentOS, Fedora, etc. ). That VM image has the 7.1.0 release however, so once you have the virtual machine up and running, just update it with the 7.1.1 archive found here, freesurfer-linux-centos7_x86_64-7.1.1.tar.gz - R..
