A knowledge of Tcl is not necessary, but can useful for advanced scripting.

Mainly, a basic knowledge of Unix, eg, how to traverse file directories, set/unset environment variables and csh or bash scripting, are the main skills needed if you plan to perform extensive freesurfer processing.

Also, if you ever need to submit a bug report, be sure to provide the necessary details, described here:

Hello there,

I am a Graduate research assistant at a Neuroimage analysis lab.I am starting to use Freesurfer for image analysis at our labs.Could you please let me know about any prerequisites which I would need before starting to use this tool.(I presume Tcl would be gud to know).Your advice will help me a long way in my work Thanks in advance
