I am trying to download FreeSurfer onto a different Linux machine. I am able to download, but when I try to unzip the files, I get this error message:
gzip: stdin: unexpected end of file tar: Unexpected EOF in archive tar: Error is not recoverable: exiting now
I have tried downloading it repeatedly with the same outcome. Do you know what the problem might be? I am downloading the ftp://surfer.nmr.mgh.harvard.edu/pub/dist/freesurfer/4.3.0/freesurfer-Linux-centos4-stable-pub-v4.3.0-full.tar.gzfreesurfer-Linux-centos4-stable-pub-v4.3.0-full.tar.gz file.
Thanks, Dana

Hi Nick,
I successfully installed it, and now I have a new problem. When I try to use tkmedit, I get this error:
tkmedit.bin: error while loading shared libraries: libstdc++.so.6: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
I think I am using an old version of redhat, which might be the problem. This is my OS information:
OS: Red Hat Enterprise Linux ES release 3 (Taroon) Linux pc120895.med.cornell.edu 2.4.21-4.ELsmp #1 SMP Fri Oct 3 17:52:56 EDT 2003 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux
Is there a way to fix this?
Thanks, Dana

Dana,
The centos4 build is a rhel4 variant, and so wont run on your rhel3 machine. You would need to use our rh9 build, but unfortunately, our rh9 build machine died, so only v4.2 is available in that build:
ftp://surfer.nmr.mgh.harvard.edu/pub/dist/freesurfer/4.2.0
it not likely we'll revive the rh9 build (unless we can workout a painless virtually workfree way to revive it, since our efforts are really more focused on transitioning to centos5). sorry.
Nick
