tkmedit should automatically refresh, but make sure that you don't put it into the background. You can turn on auto redraw in tksurfer from the View menu. This often slows things down. You can hit the "refresh" button instead (the button with up and down arrows).

Freesurfer Version = freesurfer-Linux-centos4_x86_64-stable-pub-v4.4.0

Windows System = GNOME
