*UCL Institute of Neurology Department of Neuroinflammation Postdoctoral Research Associate - MRI Physicist*
An MRI Postdoctoral Physicist is sought for the NMR Research Unit in the Department of Neuroinflammation at UCL Institute of Neurology, London. Over the past 20 years, the Unit has been developing new MR methods, carrying out research into Multiple Sclerosis, using a 1.5 T whole body scanner (General Electric). Recently the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Great Britain and Northern Ireland has awarded Prof. David Miller et al. a grant for funding a state of the art high field 3T Philips scanner, which will be installed in the second half of 2009.
The appointee will contribute to the development and optimisation of sequences for innovative new research into multiple sclerosis, with particular focus on high resolution grey matter imaging of the brain, using a variety of MR techniques. S/he will also have the opportunity to take part in developing innovative quantitative methods, such as diffusion, perfusion, magnetisation transfer, relaxometry, chemical shift imaging and sodium imaging. MR physics support will also be required for existing longitudinal studies and newly implemented techniques. There will be active collaboration with clinical researchers and physicists in the Unit and across the Institute
Applicants should have a PhD or equivalent in MR physics or biomedical engineering, a strong background in MR sequence development, and preferably experience of using a 3T scanner in a research environment and of developing one of the above mentioned quantitative methods. The post is available immediately and is funded for three years by the MS Society.
Starting salary on UCL Grade 7 in the range £31,620 - £35,239 pa inclusive of London Allowance, superannuable.
