Hello,
I would like to import the annotation file into the csurf but with only certain labels produced by parcellate subject. I would like to use this to display some of the labels produced by the parcellate subject onto the inflated brain.
Do I have to extract the labels from the annotation file first?

I guess so. You can also display the annotations/labels as outlines if having them all is obscuring stuff you want to see (tksurfer->view->label style or something like that).

Yup I know you can do outlines.
But I would like to display areas that are showing certain properties. It would make it visualize what is going on in the brain if i can only have particular labels from the annotation file displayed on the brain. Is there anyway to achieve this?

yes. I think Doug has a command line utility (Doug?), but you can do it in tksurfer by selecting a parcellation unit, then doing file->label->save selected label for the ones you want.

You can use:
mri_annotation2label
run it with --help to get docs

If you have the dev version of tksurfer Kevin's added a File -> Load Label Value File feature that lets you load a subset of annotation labels, with values determined in a label value file.
