External Email - Use Caution
I think your SUBJECTS_DIR environment variable is still set to the default spath to ubject data that is set by default in the 7.2.0 release. It is not intended that you add your own subjects in the freesurfer distribution as those are examples (and you don’t have write permission there on purpose). I would try manually setting (override) SUBJECTS_DIR in your environment to point to a path that is not under /usr/local, e.g., in your home drectory. The akira subject data needs to live under a path set in SUBJECTS_DIR where you have both read/write permission. - R.
