Dear Freesurfer users,
I would like to know what is the level of smooth recommanded to use for surface-based group analysis? Thank you, All the best, Charlotte
There's not one level of smoothing that will fit all situations. I usually use 5mm-15mm. doug

Hi Charlotte,
there's no one answer to this question. It depends on the spatial extent of the effect you are looking for, the level of noise, the number of subjects in your study, etc... A rule of thumb is the "matched filter theoreom" - you want the size of the smoothing kernel to be about the size of the effect you are looking for.
