Paul,
As far as I know, Freesurfer will not work with glibc-2.4, as we have glibc-2.3 on our build systems.
You might be able to get away with installing glib-2.3 on your system, but I really don't know if it is safe to do this (without messing-up your entire system, maybe their support staff knows the answer to this).

Hi all,
While troubleshooting installation on a SDSC supercomputer, I received the following message from their support staff, Orignial freesurfer error message:
mri_convert: error while loading shared libraries: libjpeg.so.62: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
Their response: "It looks like it is looking for glibc-2.3. We have glibc-2.4 installed under /usr/local/apps/".
Will freesurfer 3.0.5 for SuSE linux work with glibc-2.4?
