In my recent experience, no. There were problems with entering text in tksurfer/tkmedit when running on the pre-installed RHEL that went away when CentOS was installed later.

I've never had any problems with CentOS 4.x; I have had some with CentOS 5, but that was only when trying to run tksurfer, and that's really only because I didn't feel like playing around with it. I think it was an openGL issue, and not specifically a Freesurfer issue.
