Hello Ina,

Ive only seen that error when people do Xforwarding from a macOS machine to a linux machine and try to open GUI applications. As far as I know their is no way to resolve this issue and I simply tell people Xforwarding from macOS to Linux and opening freesurfer GUI applications is not supported. The easist fix would be to download the mac version of freesurfer and install locally:
