Hi List,
running freesurfer (centos 4 x86_64 3.0.2 pub full under SuSE 10.1 (had to upgrade from 9.3 because of stability issues)) I get the following Error while trying to run surf-sess (over ssh tunneled X11): surfer: ### GL window already open: can't open second % freeglut ERROR: Function <glutBitmapCharacter> called without first calling 'glitInit'. Interestingly both SuSE 9.3 and 10.1 use libglut.so.3.8.0 (freeglut). The exact command I ran from the mystudy directory is: surf-sess -sf sf -df df -analysis a3 -contrast c1_2 -hemi lh -surf inflated This exact command worked with SuSE 9.3 (all OSs 64bit linux). I am downloading 3.0.3 ATM to see whether this was fixed. If any of you have any advise I am keen to hear it ;).
Ahoi Sebastian
Hi List,
a short note, that might help, if I change surf-sess to "setenv colscalebar 0" the overlay is displayed ocer the surface, as with SuSE 9.3. The moment is press the coloro scale bar button tksurfer exits with the exact same error message as written below. One more thing I installed the latest nvidia driver package on the server in question short of the actual kernel module (as I use X over ssh, so the console machine uses its kernel module). I hope this helps to fix the problem.

Sebastian,
Hi! The 'glutInit' problem in tksurfer was fixed in v3.0.3, so let me know if that is truly fixed for you after your download completes.

Mmh, unfortunately it also does not work with 3.0.3. Same error. BTW scuba also does not work for me, same error.

Sebastian,
I was mistaken. The 'glutInit' fix has not yet propagated from our 'dev' build to the public 'stable' build. The fix will be included in the next bug-fix release (which will be next week, assuming testing is successful).
In the meantime, I've put a gzip'd tksurfer built for centos4 x86_64 that includes the glutInit call on the ftp site:
ftp://surfer.nmr.mgh.harvard.edu/pub/dist
named:
tksurfer_centos4_x86_64.gz
Can you give it a try?
Thanks,
Nick

Works like a charm. The text display of the colorscalebar no longer enforces a tksurfer crash, joy.
Thank you very much.

Thanks,
