Yesterday I gave a course on FreeSurfer basics + usage for our Radiology department in São Paulo University.
Two questions that I was not able to answer was:
1) When will the source code of FreeSurfer be released?
2) Is there some plan to include the cerebellum in the automatic parcellation/segmentation? I think last question about this in this list was in 2005.
Thanks

Hi Pedro,
1) We have released a number of beta versions of the source already, and people are welcome to it if they want it. We're hoping to have an official release by the end of the year or soon afterwards.
2) Cerebellum is hard. I don't think you can really see enough of it at standard ~1mm resolutions to segment it well as the cerebellar foliations are really small (<0.5mm), so we haven't worked on it much. Nikos Makris did come up with a manual parcellation scheme, but we haven't tried to automate it and probably won't until people start getting higher res data.
cheers, Bruce
