[Freesurfer] Corpus Callosum segmentation

Is the corpus callosum segmentation based on the Hofer and Frahm functional parcellation, a mathematical formula, or, as listed on the website, 5 equal subdivision roughly along the long axis? What is the preferred citation for this?
