the links are needed to create the Brodmann labels and the ex-vivo-based entorhinal cortex labels. they can be deleted after recon-all finishes. i suppose recon-all could be modified to do that as well, although fsaverage is typically needed for other freesurfer functions, so its useful to have it linked in your subjects dir.

Hi Freesurfer Team,
I am running Freesurfer 5.0 on Ubuntu 64-bit.
I want to change the SUBJECTS_DIR environment variable to point to an other location than inside the FREESURFER_HOME/subjects folder. When I do so, and run the recon-all command, 3 symbolic linked folders are generated for fsaverage/ lh.EC_average/ and rh.EC_average/.
How can I avoid this behaviour?
Thanks, Stephan
