The Mac OS X Tiger development release does include the MNI tools (found in the $FREESURFER_HOME/lib/mni directory).
Does the message "cannot find talairach.xfm file" appear for subjects that have had recon-all run from the beginning? Or just for the 'bert' sample subject? For bert, this message is normal, and can be ignored. I don't think you should see this message for subjects processed by recon-all run locally.

Does the MAC OS X Tiger developmental release of FreeSurfer have the MNI tools? I ask this because I installed this version and created a surface (via the GUI for demonstrative purposes), but I get that "cannot find talairach.xfm file" comment in the logs and no talairach coordinates for my surface.
