The only way you could get that info if it was input at the console when the subject was scanned Is this a dicom file or an "old" siemens ima file? If an old ima, then you can try mri_probe_ima. If a dicom, you can try mri_probedicom. If a dicom, there are lots of dicom header readers that may give you more info.
