I'm puzzled about the messages being issued. The FREESURFER_HOME appears to be /usr/local/freesurfer, but you state that your FREESURFER_HOME is /home/administrator/Desktop/. And when you typed

setenv FREESURFER_HOME <freesurfer_installation_directory>/freesurfer

what did you use to replace "<freesurfer_installation_directory>".

I'm guessing you have an old installation of freesurfer at /usr/local/freesurfer.

I just haven't been able to find anywhere in the forums how to actually open freesurfer. When I type freesurfer it says what version it is but I've never gotten a window to open or anything.
