Hi, I asked (twice, using rto@psychology.nottingham.ac.uk) for a license to use freesurfer the last week and haven't had any answer.... is this delay normal? thanks in advance! roberto

Did you apply for the license via this form? see:
http://surfer.nmr.mgh.harvard.edu/registration.html
Once this is filled-out, and the 'I Agree' button is clicked, it should instantly email you a license file. Currently, it seems to be working for others. Perhaps your email application is blocking the reception of that email?
