I am trying to run Freesurfer on a Ubuntu 7.10 (Gutsy Gibbon) system and unfortunately I encounter the same problem that Gonzalo Sanchez Benavides and also William McGarry described in earlier emails. Copying the new fsgdfPlot.tcl into the $FREESURFER_HOME/lib/tcl directory stopped the "FsgdfPlot_IsWindowShowing" error but did not save me from getting the other two error messages:

/But still the error messages do not want to disappear... Any idea where my mistake might be?
I am not sure if this is of any relevance but I have added "setenv XLIB_SKIP_ARGB_VISUALS 1" to my SetUpFreeSurfer.csh as without it I was not able to open Qdec at all.

Unfortunately, I can't find a solution to this problem. We don't have a Ubuntu system to experiment with, so I can't recreate the problem to debug it. We use Linux Centos4. Have you tried the centos4 freesurfer distribution? The rh9 freesurfer distribution is for old Linux systems (generally).
The only other thing I can suggest is that you build VTK and KWWidgets, and possibly Tcl/Tk/Tix/BLT, from scratch (or try to get rpm binaries). You can get the source from here:
ftp://surfer.nmr.mgh.harvard.edu/pub/dist/fs_supportlibs/src
and you'd put your builds/installations linked off the $FREESURFER_HOME/lib dir.

Dear experts, For reporting purposes, we have the same problem with VTKKWWidgets running qdec in freesurfer rh9 release both, on Scientific Linux, as reported in "qdec error (2)" thread, and also now on Fedora 8.

But still the error messages do not want to disappear... Any idea where my mistake might be?
I am not sure if this is of any relevance but I have added "setenv XLIB_SKIP_ARGB_VISUALS 1" to my SetUpFreeSurfer.csh as without it I was not able to open Qdec at all.
